Setting Up 404 Error Page in Plesk Panel

You can easily create your very own 404 error page yourself by following these steps below :

Step 1 : You will need to create the 404 error page and this file can be in either .htm or .html extension.

Please use a text editor such as NotePad / NotePad++ / Dreamweaver / Kompozer et cetera to create a new .htm (or .html) file.

The contents of the file can be as below :

-------------------------------------------
OOPS Page Not Found
Sorry, the file you were looking for could not be found.
It may have been moved to a new location.

Your company name
Phone (xxx) xxx xxx xxx
Fax (xxx) xxx xxx xxx
Email [email protected]
-------------------------------------------

Step 2 : Once you are happy with the contents of the file, save the file name as eg. : 404errorpage.htm

Step 3 : Try to upload the file 404errorpage.htm into your site using FTP (you can use an FTP Client like FileZilla or SmartFTP) and put the file into wwwroot folder.

Step 4 : Login to your Plesk Panel and go to Websites & Domains.

Step 5 : Choose the domain that you would like to work on and click on Hosting Settings.

Step 6 : On the Hosting Settings page, scroll down and ensure that the "Custom Error Documents" is selected and then, click OK.

Step 7 : Click on Virtual Directories.

Step 8 : Click on the Error Documents tab.

Step 9 : Click on page 2 and then, find 404 and click it.

Step 10 : In the Location field, enter the file name of the 404 page (example : 404errorpage.htm) and then, click OK.

Note : Always ensure that the error documents must be web-visible ; i.e., the file should be placed in your httpdocs directory or hosted elsewhere.

Thank you.
